Last year we celebrated 70 years at our Annual Convention and Exhibition. It was a landmark year for us.
This year brings a fresh and exciting development – we are bringing the event to the heart of Gauteng! This move will make the event more accessible for a wider range of attendees. It is on the doorstep of South Africa’s financial hub, in Johannesburg. From the 13-16th of November 2016 we will gather at Emperors Palace to learn, debate, discuss and network with industry influencers including global and local thought leaders.
Our focus this year is taken from the World Economic Forum’s ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution.’ This revolution is set to unfold over the coming five years and it has profound implications for us. Our business models and labour markets will be significantly disrupted and work as we know it will change. You may have heard of this concept spoken to at IPM events, Eddie Obeng calls it the World After Midnight (WAM). When we were sleeping, he energetically highlights, all the rules of the game changed. What worked well for us yesterday does not seem to produce the same results today.
We need to prepare ourselves for the disruptive elements of this fourth revolution, and our Convention themes and sessions will aim to provide stimulation and learning for a range of practitioners and leaders working across HR and L&D. The sub themes for the Convention Programme are:
- The essence of great leadership
- Characteristics of great business
- The intrinsic value of a great culture.
There is no doubt that the future will look different from today. The question is, how are we preparing ourselves for it?
